The Law

I hope you all had as much as fun as me diving into those books tonight.  Reading the books of the Law gives me such a bigger picture of what Jesus did for me.  Feel free to comment if you'd like. Get some discussions going about what reading God's Word is doing to you.

moses got to see God face to face and actually glow after talking to God.
sometimes i wish God would talk to me in an audible voice, or a burning bush .... it is sometimes hard to hear Him over the junk of my life.

i have been feeling yucky lately,(depressed) and i actually have been feling better after reading the Word.

Hey, I just wanted to say that I've tried to read Leviticus before(the book I'm reading for the challenge), and it's been like, really hard. But with the new perspective I got on Wednesday night, I found it makes a whole lot more sense. Yeah, there were a lot of rules, but God put them there for a reason. Now, it makes sense why God put Aaron's sons to death immediatly for preparing the offering wrong. God wanted them to do it right. After all, He's holy, and perfect, and we aren't. This was the only way the Israelites could be right before God, before He sent Jesus. And I'll be quick to say; I'm really happy that Jesus came, so we don't have to keep sacrificing animals. I'm not so fond of blood and guts!:]
Can't wait for next week!

Throughout the books of Law, God seems to have this arbitrary hatred against yeast. Why is that? -Jake

I have heard two explanations about the yeast and leaving it out of the bread...

1. A small amount of yeast changes the character of what it is in. This is symbolic of sin. It is like an infecting agent, like sin spreading throughout a Christians life. People say it is symbolic of pride and hypocrisy.

2. When you bake bread with yeast in it it takes a looonnggg time. Without the yeast it is quick. When the Jews had to leave from Egypt and escape from Pharoh, they had to leave quickly and had to bake there bread without yeast. Jews celebrate the festival of "Unleavened Bread" (eating bread without yeast in it for 7 days) to remember God bringing them out of where they were.

So, I would say yeast is used as a symbol of sin. In 1 Corinthians 5:6-8 Paul refers back to this and the Old Testament, you should read that verse:)

Hey Melissa, I thought the same thing on Wednesday!:) My eyes were really opened to that gap between God and us and how Jesus dying on the cross is the only thing that brings us together! God deserves perfection and we can never be that! But with Jesus we are transformed!:) See you this week!
